Steven Shoptaw PhD is Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Family Medicine and is Professor in Family Medicine and in Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences. He Directs three centers at UCLA: Center for Behavioral and Addiction Medicine (CBAM), an NIMH-funded P30 AIDS Research Center, the Center for HIV Identification Prevention and Treatment Services (CHIPTS) and Co-Directs the Big South/West Node of NIDA’s Clinical Trials Network. Dr. Shoptaw uses these platforms to lead research, clinical and policy efforts to bring novel and high impact strategies to deliver culturally competent care and prevention for persons affected by addictions and HIV. He provides mentorship to clinical and research scholars from diverse backgrounds in U.S., Vietnam, South Africa, Australia and Cameroon.
